In a sign of the further convergence of physical and logical access solutions, OMNIKEY has announced that it will offer high performance desktop smart card readers bundled with software from CoreStreet. The new reader package is designed to minimize deployment time and reduce the total cost of compliance associated with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12).
Irvine, CA (September 13, 2005) OMNIKEY, one of the world’s leading
manufacturers of innovative smart card readers, announced today that they will offer high performance desktop smart card readers bundled with software from CoreStreet, the leading provider of infrastructure and applications for smart credentials.
The new reader package is designed to minimize deployment time and reduce the total cost of compliance associated with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12). HSPD-12 requires that by October 27, 2006 federal government employees and contractors use a single credential, typically in the form of a smart card, to access all buildings and computer networks.
“With HSPD-12 touching nearly every Federal government employee and
contractor, we saw an opportunity to help agencies of all sizes dramatically cut the time and effort required to effectively use and validate these new smart credentials,” according to Kurt Schmid, CEO of OMNIKEY. “Bundling CoreStreet validation software with our readers is the first offer of its kind in the industry. Users simply plug in their new CoreStreet-enabled OMNIKEY reader, and the embedded validation client does the rest.”
The companies worked jointly to develop the bundled solution, drawing on OMNIKEY’S expertise in card reader technology and CoreStreet’s validation technology. The result is a convenient, reliable implementation that isn’t tied to location, time, or the availability of system administrators.
Deployment to the desktop is easy, even for large enterprises. Systems
administrators can configure the enterprise validation software centrally, and never have to touch the desktops. Users simply plug in the OMNIKEY USB or PCMCIA reader and the software is installed automatically. Users can then insert their FIPS 201 compliant credentials into the reader when they send signed e-mail. Recipients with validation clients are then able to validate the e-mail when they open it.
“OMNIKEY is clearly a leader in card reader innovation, and we look forward to continuing to partner with them to deliver innovative CoreStreet-enabled products to the market,” said Phil Libin, President of CoreStreet.
