The Association Francaise du Sans Contact Mobile (AFSCM) has announced that more than one million NFC-enabled handsets have been sold to date in France.
Spurred on by the country’s Cityzi NFC services platform, the number of NFC phones is expected to continue its upward climb to 2.5 million handsets by the end of the year, according to AFSCM.
There are currently 14 handsets available in France that support Cityzi, including popular models Samsung Galaxy S II and Sony Xperia S. According to AFSCM, almost all handset manufacturers offer one or more devices that are compatible with Cityzi services on a variety of operating systems.
“French Mobile operators have prioritized for the past several years mobile contactless phones,” commented Brigitte Bourgoin, President of AFSCM. “Thanks to this investment, they have now sold more than one million Cityzi mobile phones in France as of the first half of 2012.”
AFSCM has also launched an official website for Cityzi. The site provides a list of services offered on the Cityzi platform, including payments, loyalty, transit and information, as well as a list of compatible handsets, a guide to mobile contactless technology, technical documents and more.
