Microsoft Corp. has received a patent for a biometric-reading, pressure sensitive surface that can be used on a video game controller to enable user login by touch.
As written on TheVerge.com, the controller described in the patent closely resembles an Xbox 360 controller, which may mean this device could be used for Xbox Live games. The controller device contains a number of biometric readers that assesses a number of indicators on a person’s hands, including grip firmness, length and breadth of index and middle fingers and hand width.
With the measurements, the game console can create a user profile that triggers and logs a user into Xbox Live when the control is picked up.
Microsoft has other methods of biometric login, such as the full-body recognition of the Kinect system.
