The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has played host to more than 100 privacy and biometrics experts for a conference focusing on ethical use of biometric technology called the Third International Conference on Ethics and Policy of Biometrics and International Data Sharing. The RISE consortium (Rising pan-European and International Awareness of Biometrics and Security Ethics) served as the organizers for the conference.
The organizers believe that the area hosting the conference may be one of the most important when it comes to ethics policies regarding biometric technologies. This is due to the rapid growth the Asia-Pacific region has seen recently. Further, the various regional biometric market growth rates and levels of capability around the globe creates a situation where the need for international dialogue such as what the conference provides is also important.
