Precise Biometrics’ Tactivo case has been making headlines for its ability to bring both fingerprint scanning and smart card reader capabilities to iOS mobile devices and the hands of BYOD employees. The company’s latest foray into the mobile landscape is leveraging the Android operating system via the new Tactivo Mini case.
The Tactivo Mini for Android will enable Precise Biometrics to extend its reach beyond its current iOS-focused product line, providing the same authentication alternative to Android users that Apple consumers have thus far enjoyed. As with the company’s Apple offerings, the Tactivo Mini targets particularly those within the federal government and enterprise market sectors.
The Tactivo Mini marks Precise Biometrics’ first venture into the Android operating system, an area that constitutes a market presence in the mobile technology sector – particularly in the areas of government and enterprise. Tactivo Mini has been designed as a dongle for Android devices, serving the growing demand from the government sector to expand current PKI solutions to support the move from desktop to mobile access going forward. The device itself plugs into the charging port of an Android device via a micro-USB connector.
A notable difference between the new Android offering and previous iOS solutions is Android’s open development environment and accompanying access to the Android ‘shared library’ compared to the iOS ‘Sandbox.’ These, along with the growing adoption of Android devices in government and enterprise, served as inspiration for Precise Biometrics’ new solution.
