Rec center hand scanners to be installed at UF

If all goes as planned, sometime in August University of Florida students will only need their hands, not their Gator One ID cards, to enter the Student Recreation Center.
Students have been complaining about having to carry around their ID cards to the center and and there have been reports of students using other students’ IDs to get into the gyms. Hand geometry scanners are designed to remedy that.
The new technology will cost between $35,000 and $50,000, according to a university spokesperson, and the department is still trying to figure out where the funding will come from.
