RFID immigration technology causes quite a stir

The timing couldn’t be more eerily uncanny for the folks at surgical RFID chip manufacturer VeriChip, and ID security provider Applied Digital, whose CEO Scott R. Silverman is now scheduled to discuss RFID immigration applications on CNBC’s “Sqawk Box” (the interview was supposed to happen this morning but got pushed back at the last minute).
The interview, in which Mr. Silverman will reportedly discuss the role that VeriChip’s technology can play in the proposed Immigration legislation and Guest/Temporary Worker Program, is already causing quite a stir among Katherine Albrecht fans (aka, RFID skeptics and privacy advocates) as well as human-rights houses.
When it airs this Monday, it will ride the coattails two major news headlines – on the national level, President Bush’s plan to erect a wall across the U.S.-Mexico border, and, on the local level, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s not-so-enthusiastic draft report on RFID tracking.
