A startup company developing chipless RFID ink is ready to move its big invention from lab rats to cattle – and ultimately help livestock farmers prevent mad cow disease.
Somark Innovations announced this week that it successfully tested biocompatible RFID ink, which can be read through animal hairs and used to track cows. It’s still a little early for us to expect anything anytime soon – The company is just now raising Series A equity financing for the technology, reports InformationWeek Online.
Chief scientist Ramos Mays told InformationWeek that the tests provide a true proof-of-principle and mitigate most of the technological risks in terms of the product’s performance.
“This proves the ability to create a synthetic biometric or fake fingerprint with biocompatible, chipless RFID ink and read it through hair,” he said.
