Lighting products company Neonlite is looking to RFID technology as part of a strategic initiative to maximize efficiency and reduce waste in its manufacturing and distribution operation. The initiative, referred to as W.A.R.E. (Warehouse Management, Automatic Storage/Retrieval, RFID and ERP), is intended to create a single, integrated system to aid inbound logistics, raw materials management and manufacturing processes.
As part of the initiative, the company is deploying two solutions from software provider Infor, the SCM Warehouse Management system and SCM RFID. Infor’s SCM Warehouse Management enables improved flow of production materials between suppliers and Neonlite facilities, while Infor SCM RFID improves shop floor management of inventory. With the addition of automated storage and retrieval systems, the company will create a closed-loop logistic management solution that increases the utilization of materials, reduces waste, and improves production capacity. The integrated systems reduce data duplication and provide visibility throughout the supply chain.
Neonlite, maker of the MEGAMAN brand of energy saving lamps, is headquartered in Hong Kong with four manufacturing facilities in China, and a distribution network that covers 80 countries. The company specializes in energy efficient products, and that sense of environmental awareness extends to its production methods. The efficiency and waste reduction that the W.A.R.E. initiative is working towards fits in with Neonlite’s general green philosophy.
