The Gateway International Bridge has officially opened an RFID-equipped Ready Lane, according to The Brownsville Herald. Located in Downtown Brownsville, Texas, the bridge is one of the three international bridges that cross the U.S.-Mexico border.
Travelers with RFID-enabled travel documents approved by the Department of Home Land Security, such as a passport card, enhanced driver license, permanent resident card or a SENTRI card, can hold up their cards to the sensor which will transmit the information for verification.
If more than one person is in a vehicle, the sensor will pick up the information from their RFID-enabled documents. Passengers can either hold up their documents from their seats or the driver can present them all together.
It is estimated that 2.5 million passenger’s travel across the Gateway International Bridge each year.
