Rhode Island prison using biometrics to stop escapes

The Rhode Island Department of Corrections is implementing iris scanning technology at its prisons to prevent inmates from fraudulently switching identities at the time of one’s release to help other inmates escape, according to a WPRI Eyewitness News article.
While the department already had plans for the system when an inmate escaped using the very method the system is intended to prevent, implementation has been sped up since. The new scanners will be tasked with processing between 35 and 50 new inmates daily.
