Demand for government-issued IDs are driving up the popularity of flat card issuance, and that is leading to new innovations, product launches and technology deployments in the card manufacturing space. To continue meeting this need, Entrust Datacard announced the debut of its Datacard MX9100 Card Issuance System — technology that Entrust Datacard, in a statement, described as “the most advanced and feature-rich flat card personalization platform to help bureaus meet that demand.”
Demand for flat card issuance increases
The launch comes amid increasing use of flat cards for government-issued IDs and other uses, including payment cards. The company said that by 2021, “more than one in five credit or debit cards are likely to be a flat card.” As well, the launch reflects the increasing demand from government agencies, banks and other organizations for more speed, power and control when it comes to card issuance, the company said.
The new flat card-focused product can produce 4,000 cards per hour and is ideal for government issuers as well as payment card issuers
“Consumers want flat cards because they deliver an elevated look and feel — the format lets marketers differentiate their cards through creative graphics and flexible card layouts,” says Dan Good, vice president of Bureau Solutions at Entrust Datacard. “Keeping up with this rising demand makes productivity, reliability, uptime and total cost of ownership critical for bureaus. The MX9100 System meets these needs, incorporating new technologies to support increased speed.”
More specifically, according to Entrust Datacard, the new flat card issuance product can produce 4,000 cards per hour and employs UV-curable printing technology and high-speed laser engraving for superior image quality. The equipment enables operators to verify a single card before running an entire job and makes use of a “new Windows 10 Operating System combined with physical safeguards — critical features that make it easier to pass rigorous security audits.”
Additionally, the new flat card issuance offering operates via “simulation software (that) enhances efficiency by providing offline optimization of data files and job setups.” The MX9100 System can be purchased as a standalone card issuance system or as an inline system with the Datacard MXD810 Card Delivery System and the Datacard MXi810 Envelope Insertion System.
