A SCM Microsystems’ mobile smart card reader has won a product design award from design group iF Industrie Forum Design e.V. The pocket-sized e20 reader provides authentication for applications where secure identification is required, such as with credit card transactions over the Internet, or in accessing a network.
FREMONT, Calif.– SCM Microsystems, Inc., a leading provider of solutions that open the Digital World, announced that it has received the 2006 iF product design award for its e20 mobile smart card reader from renowned design group iF Industrie Forum Design e.V.
This year’s iF jury evaluated 2,000 products from 37 countries in twelve categories. SCM’s e20 reader competed against 265 products in the “computer” category. Evaluation criteria included design quality, degree of innovation, environmental friendliness and ergonomics.
The iF product design award has been bestowed annually since its inauguration in 1953 and is one of the world’s key design competitions. It is considered an enduring and prestigious trademark for outstanding design. The jury consists of international top designers.
“We are very pleased to receive this esteemed award. The iF quality seal is a guarantor for the latest design trends and has become a worldwide brand with a high recognition value,” said Robert Schneider, chief executive officer of SCM Microsystems. “The award affirms the innovative product design and the excellent quality of SCM’s smart card readers.”
SCM’s pocket-sized e20 reader is a reliable authentification device for all applications where secure identification is required, for example credit card transactions via the Internet (one-time password) or secure network access (challenge response). The reader offers the ideal combination of security, simplicity and functionality and enables secure access using a smart card (“something I own”) and a PIN (Personal Identification Number, “something I know”) to significantly reduce fraud.
SCM Microsystems also received the iF product design award in 2003 for its class 2 PINpad smart card reader SPR532.
