Digital TV and PC security customers benefit from award of International BS 7799 Standard granted to SCM
SINGAPORE (PRNewswire-FirstCall)–SCM Microsystems, Inc. has announced that it has achieved certification to the globally recognized standard for information security management, BS 7799, for its manufacturing facility in Singapore. SCM is one of the first electronics manufacturers in Singapore to receive BS 7799 certification, which is considered a best practice standard for information security management. The certificate of compliance was awarded in June 2004 following a successful audit by SGS International Certification Services (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.
Developed by the British Standards Institution (BSI) in conjunction with an international user group, BS 7799 was first published in the UK in February 1995 and upgraded in 2000 to the status of an international Standard (ISO/IEC 17799). The latest version of the Standard, BS 7799-2:2002, specifies the management framework, objectives, and control requirements for information security management systems. It provides over 127 main controls and over 500 detailed controls, structured under ten major headings.
“Certification to the BS 7799 standard is an important acknowledgement of SCM’s commitment to the security of information that affects our customers and our ability to serve them,” commented Eng Moh Koh, vice president, manufacturing of SCM Microsystems. “As a manufacturer of secure access products for industries ranging from digital TV broadcasting, to banking, to government, it is critical that we are able to safeguard our customers’ sensitive information and their products during the manufacturing process. BS 7799 certification enhances SCM’s value as a supplier by demonstrating the accountability and traceability of our operations.”
