Security Industry Association comments on biometrics for Medicare and Medicaid

The Security Industry Association submitted comments to the Senate Finance Committee last week advocating the use of biometric technology as a fraud reduction tool for Medicare and Medicaid.
As reported on DarkReading.com, the SIA responded to an open call for suggestions to help prevent waste, fraud and abuse in the two health care programs.
The SIA replied with a white paper detailing the use of biometrics in identification and authentication, specifically in its ability to protect beneficiaries and ensure patient information is tied to the correct person. It also discussed protecting privacy in implementing a biometric program.
The Senate Finance Committee plans to release some key proposals on this topic later this year.
