Smart Card Alliance’s Industry Councils will be holding elections to designate steering committees and officers.
Five of the six Industry councils will be electing new committees and officers— Access Control, Health care, Identity, Payments and Transportation— as the newly formed Mobile and NFC Council held its election in May of 2012. The councils’ nomination process is set to begin in September with final elections expected sometime in November.
The steering committees are responsible for setting the strategy and direction for the councils as well as approving any activities or deliverables. Participation in the steering committees offers Alliance members a great opportunity to become further involved with the councils and their objectives.
Council membership is required to be considered for a steering committee or officer position. However, upon joining a council one can officially be considered for a position.
It has been a busy year for the Industry Councils thus far, participating in a number of initiatives including EMV, NFC, mobile identity projects, healthcare smart cards and strong authentication.
