London-based Smart Media Innovation Limited (SMI), a developer of mobile applications for secure ID management, has acquired the global rights to Datastrip’s product line of mobile biometric-enabled devices for secure ID verification, giving SMI the ability to offer a full mobile access and ID verification line.
As part of the deal, SMI will own the intellectual property, trademarks and brand rights to create a new company called Datastrip Systems Limited.
This new company will be responsible for providing full technical support for its existing global customer base and developing new hardware products in the mobile identification sphere. SMI currently does not plan on changing its manufacturing or supply chain. Distribution partner Vision Database will continue on in its role as Datastrip’s U.S. distributor.
Datastrip, a strategic partner of SMI since 2005, had previously been owned by Rosedale (JW) Investments Limited. Rosedale will retain a minority stake in the new firm. Further terms of the deal were not released.
