SmartLinx, an India-based telecommunications company that specializes in Voice-Over-IP (VOIP), has announced it has integrated palm vein scanners from biometrics developer Fujitsu into their SmartVM system.
The SmartVM system is planned for use in a pilot project for biometric-based voting for the Forest Department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, India.
The Fujitsu product that has been integrated into SmartLinx’s system is called PalmSecure and operates by tracking the unique pattern of veins in a user’s hand by taking a picture with near-ultraviolet light. Officials from Fujitsu are elated with the new use of their product as they get more feedback on its use in e-governance.
