NEC Argentina, a subsidiary of Japanese technology company NEC, has announced its selection of Smartmatic, a technology company serving government needs, as a partner in a project involving the registration of Bolivian voters. The new project comes as a result of a new Bolivian law requiring the use of biometrics for registration of the expected four million voters.
The new system will involve 3000 enrollment stations, 1300 of which being mobile stations and will collect a voter’s fingerprint and signature data as well as record a picture. NEC Argentina chose Smartmatic due to its experience in assisting with similar programs in similar environments.
