SmartPay has announced that it will add Snapper payments, Aukland’s contactless transit card, to its retail network via the company’s PAX EFTPOS terminal range.
According to SmartPay CEO Andrew Donaldson, accepting Snapper payments is a “logical extension” for the company, which boasts New Zealand’s largest client base for mobile and hospitality payments.
The partners say they plan on specifically targeting merchants in New Zealand public transport hubs and general merchant markets, but expect to eventually see Snapper expanded to restaurants, bars and other service locales.
More than 300,000 Snapper cards have been issued in New Zealand to date, generating some 50 million annual transactions across more than 1,000 buses, 2,800 taxis, and 500 retailers, according to SmartPay.
Miki Szikszai, CEO of Snapper, comments: “What’s great about [PAX] terminals is the contactless reader is built into the handheld EFTPOS terminal as an ‘all-in-one’ configuration. They are very compact and ideal for a wide range of retail environments.”
