Smartrac, a developer of RFID components for a variety of applications, has completed its range of PVC pre-laminates in the ultra-high frequency (UHF) range to enhance convenience in access control applications.
Based on the Impinj Monza 4 IC passive RFID chip family, the pre-laminates offer a reading distance of more than 5 meters, enabling fast and hands-free access to secured areas, gated communities, ski lifts, and many more.
The pre-laminates are produced in a multilayered PVC construction without PET layers utilizing Smartrac’s manufacturing technologies with enhanced in-house lamination process. The UHF antenna is printed with silver ink and connected to the IC using flip-chip technology. In a final production step, all PVC layers are collated and fused together under pressure and at high temperature to get a monoblock PVC pre-laminate.
Fusing together the monoblock PVC structure with hot lamination results in a compact and reliable pre-laminate, which prevents bubbles on the card surface and avoids delamination issues, even after years of use. Furthermore, the flip-chip technology results in greater surface quality and allows card manufacturers to directly print on the pre-laminate.
