Sonavation, a biometric technology developer, has announced the development of a new fingerprint sensor they are touting as the wireless and smart card industries’ thinnest and most durable. The sensor, called the SonicSlide STS3000, is the thickness of a postage stamp and made from a material similar to commercial aircraft wings.
The SonicSlide is based on similar ultrasound technology as the health care industry ultrasound machines. Due to the use of this technology, the sensor does not require a semiconductor allowing for easier integration into notebooks and mobile devices and has low power consumption.
Sonavation is marketing the device as a way to authenticate for financial transaction online and for the mobile handset markets.
