St. Louis is looking to adopt a smart card fare system for its public transportation network, according to stltoday.com.
Metro, operator of St. Louis’ transportation system, is working on the new program, which would see passengers paying for bus and metro fares with the tap of a single smart card.
Metro has already received federal funding for the new system, which is still a couple of years away, reports stltoday.com.
In the meantime, Metro has its work cut out for it updating its MetroLink fare boxes and ticket vending machines to accept smart card technology.
