Thousands of students’ personal information were illegally obtained during a national college entrance exam in China and then sold to a local news reporter for a mere $43, according to the Global Times.
The list, containing thousands of Chinese students’ names, ID card numbers, home addresses and telephone number was reportedly stolen during a Quzhou Gaokao Exam, the nation’s college entrance exam.
Students on this list said they have received numerous calls from local businesses since taking the exam – tour agencies questioning the student’s future travel plans, restaurants promoting upcoming events, and even a photographer suggesting to take photos to commemorate taking the exam (in which their information was stolen).
Investigators are still looking into the matter and say that examinees are not the only ones dealing with unsolicited calls, and then mentioning a missing computer from Duze High School storing student information.
