Students at St. John Fisher College, Rochester, N.Y., have had more features added to their campus ID card. Instead of having to use a credit card or cash at the bookstore, a student can put money onto the school ID and make purchases with it.
It’s called Cardinal Cash and is separate from the Dining Dollars used in the eating areas around campus, said a college spokesman.
Student options for putting Cardinal Cash on their IDs include visiting the Bursar’s Office to add funds via cash or check or go onto the Bursar’s page on the Fisher Web site and submit what is called an eCheck. They can also add money via mail or phone.
Currently, Cardinal Cash can only be used at the bookstore, but the Student Government Association “has big plans for Cardinal Cash,” said the spokesman. The end goal is to have ID swipes on vending machines or allow the card to be used at off-campus merchants.
