Survey reveals companies taking data leaks more seriously

A new survey has revealed that roughly 93% of businesses are utilizing some form of data leak prevention tools with 70% planning further investments in the technology in the near future, according to a Computer Weekly article. The figures, taken from the Launchpad Europe IT Security Index 2009, further show where businesses are concentrating on their potential data leakage issues.
Among the specific results, the highest amount of data leakage protection is on e-mail and web security tools and hard drive encryption tools with both being utilized by 65% of the companies surveyed. Other notable technologies being utilized are auditing and monitoring of employees’ computer usage and encrypting flash drives. While less than 10% of companies reported using biometric technology for security, about 9% reported plans to invest in it soon. The final results of the Launchpad Europe Security Index 2009 are to be published in December.
