Telefonica O2 to launch NFC mobile transit payments trial
Czech operator Telefonica O2 and the transport service from the Czech city Pilsen are set to launch next month a nine-month mobile payments trial with NFC-equipped phones. That would allow riders to pay for their rides as well as use their phones to buy goods at participating retailers.
The NFC transit application will be available for download through the Telefonica O2 network during the first phase of the trial which is scheduled to last through June. After that, users will be able to top up their e-purse and transit application as well as buy new bus tickets directly from their NFC phone in addition to using the city’s Web site.
