Tracking Bracelets for Alzheimer’s Patients

“Nagle is the first Silver City resident to register for Project Lifesaver, a new program operated by the Silver City Police Department that uses a state-of-the-art locator bracelet system to track missing Alzheimer’s patients.
The bracelets transmit an FM frequency and work with a receiver operated by the Police Department. Should a person wearing the bracelet become lost, the receiver would be activated, and the individual would be located within minutes, according to Capt. Chris Ponce.
‘People with Alzheimer’s lose their ability to recognize familiar places and faces,” Ponce said. ‘Many people cannot remember their names or addresses. They may become disoriented and lost in their neighborhood or far from home.”‘
Not RFID in a traditional sense, but an interesting take on wearable computers, and the pragmatic uses of location and ID technology.
