NXP Semiconductors has announced that its PN544 NFC chip has been chosen by Turkcell for Turkey’s first NFC-enabled smart phone.
Manufactured by Huawei, the Turkcell T20 Android smart phone will enable Turkcell subscribers to perform a variety of contactless transactions, including payments, data sharing, public transport, event ticketing and access control, according to Turkcell.
These services are enabled through Turkcell’s Cep-T Cüzdan mobile wallet, which comes preloaded on every T20 handset. Built on Androids Gingerbread 2.3.3 OS, Cep-T Cüzdan allows consumers to load the contents of their physical wallet onto their mobile phone – i.e. payment cards, ID, access credentials and so on.
According to Turkcell, the T20’s secure element will reside on the phone’s SIM card, which is connected to NXP’s NFC chip via the single wire protocol (SWP). The resulting NFC solution enables secure wireless two-way communication between the T20 and other smart phones, terminals or readers.
