The University of Central Florida is preparing for the conversion to a new digital campus card system that would make the student ID similar to a debit card, according to a campus news report.
Set to launch this fall, the new card program will be made so that students can monitor their accounts, set their PIN numbers and check balances online – none of which could be done with the campus’ previous program.
Campus officials say that students need not worry about getting a new card, because the mag stripe on the back of the card enables it to be used as a SunTrust ATM/debit card.
Student transactions will also be carried out in real time, meaning that when a student makes a purchase the amount spent is immediately deducted from the student’s current available funds.Parents will also be able to access the student’s account to check balances, and add funds if needed.
Additionally, with the new system the embedded Smart Chip on the front of the card will become of no use, say campus officials.
