As part of its upgrade of services, the University of Salford Manchester, UK will issue a new all-in-one, electronic ID card. The new single card will replace the previous installment which required students to carry two, sometimes three, different types of cards.
In the past students, would carry a student ID card in addition to a proximity card which granted them access to the various campus buildings and controlled facilities. Some students were also issued swipe cards to pay and gain access to the campus parking lots.
The new all-in-one card will grant students access to a variety of campus facilities and services including library, print and copy, parking, cashless payment at nearby restaurants and kiosks, as well as provide secure access to campus buildings and recreational centers.
University officials added that the new card also leaves room for expansion with support for any up-and-coming technologies in the future.
