UPEK, developers of biometric solutions, have announced the release of a new fingerprint scanner designed for netbooks and Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) to be integrated into different manufacturer’s next models. The hardware and software included are called the TouchStrip TCS5 Fingerprint Sensor and Fingerprint Suite Starter respectively.
The Fingerprint Suite Starter operates by memorizing your passwords and protecting them with required fingerprint authentication so that Web sites and applications used with the software do not need to have fingerprint authentication capabilities. As many of the users of netbooks and MIDs currently have to remember numerous passwords to access different web accounts, UPEK is hoping their new technology will be able to replace the password security and ease the use of the netbooks and MIDs.
