Valeo, Orange partner for NFC car sharing program
Valeo and Orange are developing an NFC-enabled solution that allows vehicles to be shared between several drivers.
Under the system, users can go online to reserve a car for a specific period of time. Once the reservation is confirmed, a temporary, non-transferable key is sent to the user’s cell phone via the Orange platform.
At this point, all the user has to do is place his NFC-enabled cell phone by the car door to unlock it, and then pass the phone over the dashboard to interact with a Valeo contactless reader to start the vehicle.
Designed specifically for automakers and service providers in the automobile sector, the solution enables the lending or borrowing of a key at a distance, thereby avoiding the risk of losing keys and controlling and restricting use of the vehicle, according to Valeo.
