VeriChip, a developer of RFID solutions for the health care industry, has announced its support for a bill in Pennsylvania state government regarding prohibiting forced implantation of identification devices in human beings, according to an iHealth Beat article.
Officials from VeriChip have stated that they feel the use of their products is a decision to be made between a patient, their doctor and loved ones.
State representative, Democrat Babette Josephs, who introduced the bill has acknowledged the potential positives that products such as those produced by VeriChip are capable of, but insists that the bill is necessary as forcing the technology upon people could lead to many more bad outcomes than good. The bill passed the Pennsylvania House late June and is now awaiting a vote in the Senate.
