Wescorp Energy, a developer of oil industry-related technology, has determined that the current generation of RFID chips can spend four months at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico and remain both readable and retrievable.
This insight enables Wescorp to offer their Intelligent Field Resource Management (IFRM) Solution, a RFID-driven tracking and locating system for industrial and oil-field equipment. The IFRM technology is intended to track such information the exact location of a piece of undersea equipment, whether it’s functioning at any precise moment, and if it needs to be serviced or replaced.
“The equipment associated with deepwater operations in places like the Gulf of Mexico is big, expensive, critical to operations and, in most cases, in short supply,” said Scott Shemwell, Wescorp Energy COO. “An RFID tag can be the key to unlocking important information about that piece of equipment when linked to a suite of process management services, thereby helping to reduce the costs of oilfield operations.”
