The University of Wisconsin – Platteville is considering changes for its student IDs to comply with the new Voter ID law, according to The Huffington Post. Signed by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, the law permits student IDs to be used at the polls if they have a photo, a signature and expire in two years.
However, the current IDs at UW-Platteville only have a photo and no expiration date. The school has said that instead of changing all student IDs it will create a special card for voting. Officials at UW-Platteville said that they’ve made the identification cards and students should see them showing up sometime this fall.
“We just want to make sure that our students can vote, and to make it as easy for them as possible so they can be part of the democratic process,” said Jim Mueller, of UW-Platteville auxiliary services.
UW-Lacrosse is considering a similar plan. UW-Madison is looking at changing the actual student ID to be compliant.
