Bhima & Brothers Jewellers (B&BJ), a jewelry retailers with stores throughout southern India, has introduced an RFID-enabled tracking solution. The system integrates RFID tags with handheld PDAs and point-of-sale billing mechanisms to automate many stock management functions of the jewelry industry.
The RFID solution was designed by MphasiS, a division of EDS and uses hardware specially configured for this application by e-Xseed Technologies & Devices Pvt. Ltd. The solution addresses the specific needs of the manually intensive retail jewelry world, including speed, billing accuracy, shrinkage prevention and near-real time stock accounting, along with automating the billing process.
Since the system has been deployed throughout B&BJ’s stores, the company reports an 83 percent reduction in labor efforts related to stock reconciliation, while maintaining 100 percent inventory accuracy. A spokesperson also noted the solution was deployed with minimal disruption to existing inventory systems.
MphasiS designed the system to specifically fit the needs of the Indian retail market, and believes it can be easily adapted to work in other forms of retail beyond the jewelry industry.
