Swiss phone companies form NFC work group
Three of Switzerland’s leading telecommunications companies, Orange, Sunrise and Swisscom, have formed a work group to compile standards that would make NFC technology easier to adopt by service providers, leading to production of more NFC-compliant phones that can be used for payments and ticketing.
By the end of 2010 the group hopes to be able to provide service models to banks, transportation companies and trading firms to support their electronic services. In order to ensure cross-border functioning of mobile payment and mobile contactless services, the work group is also taking into account the standards used by organizations such as GSMA, EMVCo and the NFC Forum.
Orange, Sunrise and Swisscom believe the first, standardized, NFC-capable mobile phones will be launched internationally starting next year.
