Comelec awards biometrics deal to Unison

The Filipino Commission on Elections (Comelec) has awarded a biometric project that aims to catch multiple voter registries as well as increasing biometric voter registry machines valued at roughly $33 million, according to an Inquirer.net article. The project was awarded to a joint venture called Unison that consists of Unison Computer Systems, NEC Philippines and Lamco Paper Products.
Under the guidelines of the project, Unison will be providing the infrastructure for registering citizens, detecting fraud and transmission of the collected data to the Comelec headquarters where the commission will oversee the creation of the voter IDs. In addition to providing new infrastructure and upgrading some old areas, Unison is also supplying Comelec with 2000 new registration machines bring the country’s total to 2600.
