The Maryland Transit Authority (MTA) is pushing its smart card deployment back to next fall, according to ABC News.
The MTA has considered implementing a fare collection system based on smart card technology since 2001, yet the deployment has been delayed several times: first to summer 2008, then to October of this year, this winter, and now, finally, to next fall.
According to MTA spokeswoman Jawauna Greene, the agency needs more time to test the technology on bus and light rails systems.
