BAE Systems, a defense, security and aerospace company, has invested in biometric developers Smart Sensors to help develop and improve the iris recognition capabilities of the company’s algorithms.
The investment comes from a BAE program called Investment in Innovation wherein BAE identifies small and medium businesses as well as academics in need of funding and working on technology that could enhance defense or security systems.
Smart Sensors was chosen primarily due to BAE officials believing that the iris recognition market was wide-reaching and fast growing with Smart Sensors having made significant headway in technology development and intellectual property holding.
