London’s Heathrow Airport will introduce new facial recognition systems in terminals 1 and 5, reports Planet Biometrics.
The system incorporates the Aurora Imaging Recognition (AIR) system and Atkins Passenger Authentication Scanning System (PASS 2) and will be used to control passenger access to the common departure areas and verify passengers before they board flights.
This implementation is an upgrade from the passenger processing technology Heathrow has been using for the past three years.
Through trials, verification has taken less than five seconds. The system plans to take different variables into consideration upon implementation.
