Smartrac is partnering with FujiFilm and Near Field Solutions to launch NFC-enabled photo printing kiosks in the UK.
Available in supermarkets, retail outlets, pharmacies and camera shops, these new SmartPix kiosks allow consumers to transfer images directly from their NFC-enabled phone by simply touching their handset to the kiosk. The phone connects to the kiosk via NFC and transfers the photos via Bluetooth. Once connected, the user is given the option to print standard photos, montages, photo books or other photo-based gift items.
According to Smartrac, each kiosk is equipped with the company’s BullsEye NFC inlay, which enables instant Bluetooth pairing with any electronic device in under a second.
FujiFilm started the trial last month with 10 to 15 SmartPic kiosks in the UK, and expects to expand to more than 9,000 kiosks in Europe by the end of the year.
