SecureAuth Corp. unveiled SecureAuth IdP 8.0, an access control solution that incorporates risk-based authentication – analyzing and stopping attackers before they breach an IT environment; HID Global announced that iZipline will integrate HID Trusted Tag Services into its cloud-based software platform that enables mobile consumer engagement via Near Field Communications technology; and Credence ID and Fulcrum Biometrics announced two new deployments of their combined Android-based mobile biometric solution in Mexican and Guatemalan prisons.

Lars Suneborn has joined the Smart Card Alliance as the director of training programs. In this role he will lead and expand education, training and certification initiatives on smart card technology for the alliance.

Walt Disney World’s investment in MagicBands seems to be paying off. The wristbands uses radio frequency technology. Guests can tap the band to touch points in places around the park entrances and FastPass+ entrances. Guests are also required to provide biometric identification – a fingerprint – or a photo ID at the entrance.

Two-factor authentication is often pointed to as a way to improve online identification. And while two-authentication is an improvement over user names and passwords it can still be hacked. One of the latest attacks is a variation on a man-in-the-middle attack called Operation Emmental that’s being used in Europe.

Gemalto announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire 100% of the share capital of SafeNet, a provider of data protection and software monetization, from Vector Capital for $890 million on a debt free/cash free basis.
The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter.

LaunchKey released a facial scan biometric for supported iOS and Android devices that works using a device’s camera. The company also enabled WordPress users who have the LaunchKey plugin to access the site using a facial recognition biometric on their mobile device.
