Coca-Cola taps PingPing for NFC vending machine payments

Coca-Cola has hooked up with European payments specialist PingPing to upgrade its vending machines in Belgium and Luxembourg to accept NFC mobile payment, according to thenextweb.com.
The new feature, to be in place by the end of the year, will allow customers to pay for drinks by simply passing a mobile phone equipped with an NFC sticker over a special reader on the vending machine.
Stijn Vander Plaetse, VP Innovation at Belgian operator Belgacom, comments: “After the success of contactless payment in the mobility field, this partnership with the major player in the beverage sector again demonstrates the soundness of our innovative strategy which aims to transform the mobile phone into an electronic wallet.”
