France’s AIRTAG is partnering with Nokia to launch a virtual loyalty card using peer‐to‐peer NFC technology on Nokia’s C7 handset.
The
app,
which
is
based
on AIRTAG’s
fidBook
technology,
allows
users
to
collect
loyalty
points
and
download
coupons
directly to
their
phone. Data is transmitted through direct communication
with
an
NFC
reader in
peer‐to‐peer
mode, which does not require a
mobile
data
network to operate.
“
We
are
convinced
that
several
NFC
architectures
will
coexist
in
the
coming
years.
NFC
P2P
mode
will
enable
innovative
mobile
marketing
solutions
while
waiting
for
a
broader
support
of
card
emulation
mode
by
manufacturers,” says Jeremie
Leroyer,
CEO
of
AIRTAG.
“We
are
convinced
that
our
users
will
enjoy
these
loyalty
and
couponing
solutions before
using their
phone
for
payment
services,”
adds Jeremy
Belostock,
head
of
NFC
activities
at
Nokia
Europe.
