Bangalore and Pune are vying to be the first city in India to deploy a contactless smart card fare system on city buses, according to idsuperstore.ca.
Bangalore’s smart card program is nearing completion, according to transit officials. The system is expected to provide commuters easy tap-and-go style payment on the city’s 1,000 buses. Pune, on the other hand, has a definitive November 14 launch date for its smart card system.
According to idsuperstore.ca, successful deployment in either city may mean the federal government will deploy its Common Mobility Card throughout the region, granting travelers access to buses, trains, ferries and more with one smart card.
