Barco, an IT solution provider in the field of RFID and wireless technologies, announced that is has completed the development of an ultra-high frequency RFID reader designed for large-scale systems that require minimal cabling.
The RFID reader, small in size, supports up to 8 special ultra-thin modular planar antennas for automatic identification of objects, in the interior or in an industrial environment. The antennas are thin with a variable length of 50-100 cm and a thickness of 2 mm, allowing installation in tight spaces.
The antennas enable wireless communication via standard WiFi network, and their features and dimensions make for a suitable creation of large-scale RFID read zones, with minimal cabling. Additionally, the Barco RFID reader features a built-in power supply so no external power and no excess cabling are needed. It is appropriately design for applications, such asset tracking in doors, entrances, and hallways, tracking in manufacturing or conveyors belts or IT equipment tracking in rack cabinets.
No word on availability was stated, as the company is still seeking out partners and investors for the commercial launch of production.
