As networked printers in businesses have presented a hazard related to printing sensitive documents when the printer is not in your immediate vicinity, Silex, a biometric technologies developer, has created a biometric solution to the issue, according to an Advance Web article.
The technology, called SecurePrint, is designed for use in the health care industry as confidential patient information is printed regularly without the device being located near the user, however, it has similar possibilities for use in any area where networked printers are used for printing confidential or sensitive documents.
SecurePrint’s setup requires a user to use their fingerprint to authenticate the printing session at their computer and then again at the printer itself which holds the document in queue until the same user authenticates it via the fingerprint sensor on the printer.
Silex has developed the system as an enterprise solution to allow for organizations to implement the security at both the computer stations to protect stored data as well as at the printers to protect hard documents.
