Clemson lab aims to strengthen biometric identification

Thanks to a $2 million grant from the Office of the U.S. Director of National Intelligence, the Image and Video Analysis Lab at Clemson University in South Carolina has joined with other universities to create the Center of Academic Studies in the Identification Sciences to strengthen biometric identification processes.
The lab is currently looking at enhancing iris recognition in less than ideal situations, such as when the subject blinks. Commented a Clemson professor: “We then can look at eye region features such as skin folds and wrinkles for more accurate identification along with the iris.”
